Herrick Summer Volleyball, Basketball Camps a Success
Fifth- through eighth-graders got to work on volleyball and basketball skills this month at sports camps hosted by Herrick Middle School.
Herrick Middle School’s co-ed summer volleyball camp, hosted June 13-17 for incoming fifth- through eighth-graders, was a success again this year.
“This was Herrick’s second year hosting the camp and the number of campers continues to grow,” said Gail Pistello, who coached the camp along with Chuck Justis.
Campers had opportunities for skill work, game play and activities, along with numerous chances to win prizes. Separate sessions were offered for incoming fifth- and sixth-graders, incoming seventh-graders and incoming eighth-graders.

“We were very pleased to see the improvement our campers made throughout the week,” Pistello said. “We want to thank each and every student who participated.”
This summer for the first time the school also hosted a basketball camp, which ran the week of June 20. Sessions were offered for seventh and eighth grade boys, seventh and eighth grade girls, and fifth and sixth grade boys.

“The camps stressed the fundamentals of the game combined with game play and other fun activities,” said Dean Pentaris, who coached the camp along with Nicole Trezzo.
The duo focused on skill work and on teaching the campers all aspects of the game.
