Tip of the Week: Get your Daily Dose of Sunshine

Bask in the sunshine and enjoy the benefits of Vitamin D.

Spring is in the air.  The flowers are blooming and the temperature is slowly rising. As we lace up our sneakers and head outdoors, we not only benefit from physical activity, but also from sunshine!

Did you know that when UVB rays from the sunshine hit your skin, your body produces Vitamin D naturally?  Vitamin D has many health benefits including improved immune function and decreasing the risk for a number of different cancers.  Visit http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/research.shtml for research on the health benefits of Vitmain D.

Your skin will not produce Vitamin D if you are wearing sunscreen, or if you are behind glass, as UVB rays do not penetrate either. Here in the Midwest, we don't get adequate sunshine all year long, so sometimes supplementation is needed. Check with your physician for testing.
