Caller Posed As Downers Grove Cop In Phone Scam
Police in Downers Grove are urging residents to stay vigilant after a scam caller demanded thousands of dollars.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove police are urging residents to be on the lookout for scams in which a caller poses as someone from the village's police department.
Per an update shared on the village website Thursday, a resident got a call Monday in which the scammer said they were a police officer from Downers Grove. The caller then asked for "several thousand dollars" to resolve a "legal matter," the update said.
The resident called the Downers Grove Police Department to see if the call was valid and was able to dodge the scam.

Police are reminding residents that no one from the department will call to ask for any type of funds or payment and will not request payment to help avoid an arrest.
Residents who believe they are being targeted by a scammer should not share or verify personal information and should hang up immediately and call 911 or notify the Downers Grove Police Department at 630-434-5600.
