Cash, Jewelry Stolen During Ruse Burglary In Downers Grove: Cops
The victim told police a man claiming to be from a utility company distracted her while someone else stole belongings from her home.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Downers Grove woman lost hundreds of dollars and a gold bracelet during a ruse burglary in early February. The incident took place in the 3300 block of Venard Road on Feb. 5, according to a police report.
The victim told police that a man came to her door claiming to be with a utility company that was inspecting homes due to recent house fires. He took the woman into her basement and stalled her while another man was stealing items from the home, according to police.
After the first man left, the woman noticed that her purse had been rifled through and that $800 cash was missing, along with a gold bracelet valued at $500.
