A family's cat died in a fire that broke out in a Downers Grove home Tuesday morning.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A cat was killed in a fire that displaced a family from their Downers Grove home Tuesday morning.

Fire officials say two residents were home when the fire broke out and were able to get out safely, along with their other cat.

Firefighters were called to the 5700 block of Lyman Avenue just before 8:15 a.m. for a report of a house fire. When they got to the scene, they found a blaze in the home's basement. Fire crews were able to put out the flames, but the home was deemed uninhabitable due to smoke and fire damage.
