Community Rises To #BethStrong Challenge To Honor DGN Student
The teen's death has inspired acts of kindness throughout the community.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — It's been a week since beloved Downers Grove junior Beth Dunlap died after being hit by a car outside of Downers Grove North High School. In the wake of Dunlap's death, residents of the Downers Grove community and beyond have banded together to honor the varsity volleyball player's memory by wearing #bethstrong or #18 on their jerseys, doing 18 extra reps at the gym, or performing 18 acts of kindness.
Some local businesses have even gotten into the act by offering 18 percent off for customers.
The #bethstrong and #18for18 hashtags have gained momentum on social media, with high school athletes challenging each other to get into the act. Here's a look at some of the ways fellow students, community members, and neighbors have honored Dunlap since her death.
