This 'Curse of Downers Grove' Clip Gives Eerie Glimpse at Upcoming Horror Film

Most of us know by now that one not-so-well-kept secret of this movie is that it was filmed in California, not suburban Illinois. But that doesn’t necessarily squash the thrill of seeing ‘Downers Grove’ in the title.

The secret the synopsis is actually referring to centers around the annual death of a senior at Downers Grove High School. Chrissie Swanson, portrayed by Bella Heathcote, believes she’ll be the next fatal victim of the curse.

The movie also stars Lucas Till, Penelope Mitchell, Tom Arnold and Kevin Zegersand. It’s based on the the 1999 novel “Downers Grove” by Michael Hornburg.

The film is directed by Derick Martini from a script co-written by Martini and Bret Easton Ellis, author of the novel “American Psycho.”

The premiere date for “The Curse of Downers Grove” is set for Aug. 21 in select theaters, with a Blu-ray and DVD release on Sept. 1.
