Dozens Of District 58 Students Selected For State Music Festival

Orchestra director Julie Spring said she is "thrilled" for the students performing in the Illinois Music Education Association festivals.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A total of 38 students from Downers Grove Grade School District 58 have been selected to perform in the Illinois Music Education Association's (ILMEA) upcoming festivals on Nov. 5 and Nov. 12.

The students will join performers from more than five dozen Chicago-area schools as they come together for the festivals.

District 58's Festival Band, Chorus and Orchestra will perform their Festival Finale Concert at the District 1 Music Festival on Nov. 5 in New Lenox. The district's Junior Jazz Bands will perform at the District 1 Jazz Festival on Nov. 12 in Elmhurst.

Julie Spring, orchestra director at O'Neill, Fairmount and Hillcrest told Patch, "We are thrilled for these young musicians to have this opportunity to work and perform with master clinicians in their fields! It is always exciting to see our students connect with other musicians from across Chicagoland to create these inspiring performances."

Student Carla Bolton, who is participating in the festivals, said, "I chose to audition for ILMEA because I wanted to challenge myself more in cello....I enjoyed having a commitment to hold to and having to work hard because in the end it was worth it."
