District 99 Orchestra Students To Perform At Millennium Park

The students will take the stage with students from China and other midwestern states for a two-hour gala performance.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — District 99 orchestra students have a rare opportunity to do something that some musicians my never end up doing. They'll take the stage at Pritzker Pavilion for a live performance in Millennium Park. The special two-hour concert, entitled "Friendship Lasts Forever," kicks off at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16.

The District 99 orchestra members were chosen to perform in the concert along with other high school musicians from Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and the greater midwest. The students will be joined by pop artists, dancers, the Valparaiso University Symphony Orchestra, and other entertainers from China and throughout the world as they celebrate traditional Chinese music and dance through song.

Nearly three dozen performing groups will take part in "Friendship Lasts Forever." The event will also allow District students to take workshops from Chinese students who will teach them more about Chinese music, traditional instruments, performance, and culture.
