The 1% tax will affect alcohol and prepared food purchases in stores, along with alcohol and food items purchased at restaurants. Commissioner Bob Barnett acknowledged that "everyone hates taxes." Barnett and Mayor Martin Tully noted that many non-residents will help pay the 1% food and beverage tax and help earn revenue for the village. Barnett also emphasized that this tax is discretional and would only be paid by people who choose to engage in the affected purchases.
