DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The Downers Grove North High School volleyball team has planned an event to honor the late Beth Dunlap, who died when she was hit by a car outside of the school in February. Dunlap, who was 17 when she died, would have been a senior volleyball player this year.

The "Shine Beth's Bright Light" ceremony to honor Beth's life will be held just before the varsity volleyball warmup and just after the sophomore volleyball game. The memorial event is set to start around 5:15 p.m., according to District 99 officials.

In a statement, Downers Grove North volleyball coach Mark Wasik said, "This year would have been Beth’s senior season and we want to commemorate her legacy and memory. We thank the community for their continued support of our team, our school, and Beth’s family."

The foundation, named for the late teen and the number of her volleyball jersey, raises funds to help underprivileged athletes realize their dreams of playing volleyball and other sports.
