Downers Grove Students Win Illinois Stock Market Game

Students from Downers Grove South and North took top honors in The Stock Market Game.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Congratulations are in order for students at Downers Grove South and North after they placed first and second respectively in a statewide stock market game. The AP students faced off against nearly 700 other teams to earn the top honors.

The winning Downers Grove South team was helmed by microeconmics teacher Elaine Marinakos and featured the stock market savvy of students Blake Cassani, Robin George, and Justin Yang.

Timothy Flavin, Jonathan O'Boyle, Mohamed Uddin, and Cade Zarnowski honed their mad stock market skills to earn the second place honors for Downers Grove North with the macroeconmics teacher Thomas Saam serving as coach.

In the semiannual Stock Market Game, students start out with $100,000 capital and must research market trends to invest in or sell stocks and mutual funds, according to a post on the Downers Grove North website.

The Stock Market Game uses interactive simulations to help students build economics, social studies, language, and math skills.
