Downers North To Send Truckload Of Supplies To Hurricane Victims
The school will send a 65-foot semi that's loaded with supplies to aid victims of the recent hurricanes.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — In the wake of Hurricanes Florence and Michael, students and staff at Downers Grove North are holding a fundraiser and drive to fill a 65-foot semi with food, toiletries, and other supplies to deliver to victims. The school will hold supply drives on three separate dates before the truck, donated by Downers Grove-based Romexterra Construction, heads down to South Carolina on Oct. 21.
According to a news release, 2014 Downers Grove alumnus Alex Duta, who is a manager at Romexterra, is working to facilitate the donation delivery with the help of the school's National Honor Society and its Independent Women in Leadership club. Romexterra made similar supply deliveries to victims of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma in 2017.
- Community members can bring canned food, diapers, toiletries, blankets, clothing, first aid items, and cleaning supplies to load up into the semi in the Downers Grove North parking lot on the following dates:
- Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the purple gym or lobby auditorium lobby
- Oct. 20 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in northwest corner of Main Street parking lot
- Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in northwest corner of Main Street parking lot
The organizers are also accepting monetary donations to help victims anytime between Oct. 15 and Oct. 18. If you're interested in making a financial donation, contact Downers Grove North science teacher Mike Michael Heinz at mheinz@csd99.com.
