Downers North Students Earn National Medals In Art Competition
Five students from Downers Grove North earned medals in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Five students from Downers Grove North recently earned national medals in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards contest for their original art creations.
The following students were recognized in the competition:
- Haley Phillips earned a gold medal for "Koi Pond," a ceramics and glass piece.
- Aiden Robinson earned a gold medal for "The Inventor," a jewelry piece and won the American Vision Medal for suburban Chicago
- Claire Myers earned a silver medal for "Caged In," a jewelry piece.
- Emily Nemeth earned a silver medal for "Burning Blossom," a jewelry piece.
- Elena Tomchak earned a silver medal for "Contaminated Holy Water," a jewelry piece.
"We are thrilled for these students, and this amazing national accomplishment," Downers Grove North High School Fine Arts Department Chairperson Brayer Teague said in a news release.

The Downers North students who earned medals were chosen from more than 300,000 art pieces submitted by students in grades seven through 12.
Teague added, "Their hard work and determination, coupled with the exceptional mentoring of their teachers, has propelled them to be recognized at this level. We could not be happier for them."
