Downers North Yearbook Staff Wins Journalism Awards
Students on the Downers Grove North yearbook staff earned several awards in the statewide contest.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Students from the yearbook staff at Downers Grove North High School (DGN) recently garnered several awards in the Illinois Journalism Education Association (IJEA) Yearbook Contest.
Staff members received the following awards:
- 2nd place in layout and design
- 2nd place in sports coverage
- 2nd place in theme development
- 3rd place in graphics
- 3rd place in copywriting
- Honorable mention for best use of photography
The 2021-22 yearbook staff, which prepares the Cauldron Yearbook, is helmed by editors-in-chief Blythe Braun and Erin Peters. Staff members include Jessica Adamson, Jillian Arquilla, Alexandra Bojkovski, McKenna Cinotte, Ashley Crylen, Ava Gallwas, Emily Greifhahn, Charlotte Hansen, Kendall Hennelly, Paige Herbert, Griffin Ilyavi, Quinn Kavanaugh, Melody Lagos, Madeleine McGovern, Anastasia Polihronidis, Chloe Radeke, Jordan Randle, Madeline Redpath, William Ruddy, Emily Rymers, Ella Sebek, Benjamin Sevcik, Olivia Shirk, Alex White

“Despite a trying year with in-person and remote learning, our students persevered and created an outstanding publication,” DGN English and Communications teacher and yearbook adviser Dr. Kathy Smith said in a news release.
Smith added, “I’m incredibly proud of their dedication; they are very much deserving of this recognition.”
