Downers South Journalism Students Earn 3rd Place In State Competition
Individual students earned several medals during the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Journalism finals on April 21.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Students from Downers Grove South High School recently earned third place overall and several individual medals during the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Journalism finals, which were held April 21.
Journalism team members who competed in the IHSA state finals include:

- Juliana Conyer
- Mias Cassin
- Marty Blader
- Joey Portell
- Kate Dziewiniski
- Anthony Addante
- Catherine Hewawissa

- Haley Fredricks
- Julia Frauendorff
- Hanna Rodeck.

“It is an honor just to get to advance to state. The whole team should be proud of their work. They are such a smart and talented group of students,” English teacher Mary Long, who is a journalism sponsor at Downers Grove South said in a news release.
The students earned a spot in the state finals after gaining a top spot in the sectional competition, which was held in early April.
