Nonfiction Book Discussion: The Girls of Murder City by Douglas Perry

Books are made available one month before each discussion. We meet in the second floor conference room. We will discuss The Girls of Murder City: Fame, Lust, and the Beautiful Killers Who Inspired Chicago by Douglas Perry. In Roaring 20s Chicago, a Tribune police reporter exposed a female crime spree that grabbed headlines in a story that explores sensationalistic journalism, Jazz Age mores, ingrained cultural prejudice, and the sexism that inhibited male jurors from convicting killers with pretty faces.  Perry’s brew of murder, scandal, and social history illuminates the real people behind the musical Chicago and the dawn of the cult of celebrity.
