The Senior Suburban Orchestra (SSO), now in its twelfth season will be playing its first open-to-the-public concert on April 21. Throughout its first eleven seasons, the orchestra contracted to perform for specific audiences at schools, retirement homes, and meetings of business, religious, and social groups. The SSO is a 40-piece orchestra, drawing players from a variety of western suburbs. It provides a venue for musicians to perform, and brings concert music to audiences who might otherwise be denied the live-music experience. The orchestra is conducted by Dan Pasquale D'Andrea. The program includes music by Richard Rodgers, Johann Strauss, Jr., Ernesto Lecuona, and Leone Sinigaglia, plus a chance for the audience to sing along with a medley of songs with colors in their titles.
