Sinfonietta Bel Canto's Chamber Opera and Symphony Debut

The Downers Grove-based, Sinfonietta Bel Canto, a brand new chamber orchestra and opera group, presents its opera debut concert with Benefit Gala on Sunday, November 14, 3:00 pm, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 5211 Carpenter St., Downers Grove IL (1 blk W of Main St near downtown Downers Grove, off of Grove St, on the corner of Grove and Carpenter). Local residents include tenor Jim Stahulak of Downers Grove; Lisle residents Todd Diehl, baritone, and Jeanne Seyller, soprano; soprano Angela Presutti Korbitz of Woodridge; and bass Bruce MacLean of LaGrange. La Cambiale di Matrimonio is a one-act operatic comical farce by Gioachino Rossini to a libretto by Gaetano Rossi. The libretto was based on the play by Camillo Federici (1791) as well as on a previous libretto written by Giuseppe Checcherini for Carlo Coccia's 1807 opera, Il matrimonio per lettera di cambio. The opera debuted on November 3, 1810 at the Teatro San Moisè in Venice.Composed in a few days when he was 18 years old, La Cambiale di Matrimonio was Rossini's first professional opera. The overture, written when he was a student at the Liceo Musicale in Bologna, is an important part of the modern concert repertoire.A Benefit Gala, with silent auction, and complimentary food andmusic, will immediately follow the opera. Also on the concert is Mozart’s Symphony #25 in G-minor, “Little”, a “minor” masterpiece. Combining both chamber orchestra and opera performances, the SBC presents a concert series that includes at least 1-2 operas (with “sub-titles” if needed) each season. With its home at an acoustic treasure–Immanuel Lutheran Church in Downers Grove –the SBC offers its community members and audience high quality, affordable orchestra and opera performances with open seating; a handsome, convenient location; and recording quality acoustics.
