Firefighters Offer Events For Resdients In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The Downers Grove Fire Department has two events planned in October that residents are invited to take part in. These are the annual memorial Silent Parade and the family-friendly A Night at the Firehouse.

Oct. 11: A Night at the Firehouse

On Oct. 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., families can visit Station 5 at 6701 Main St. for A Night at the Firehouse. The free event includes hands-on activities, rescue and rappelling demonstrations, games and more. Kids can slide down a fire pole, meet local firefighters and learn more about what goes on behind the scenes for members of the Downers Grove Fire Department.

Oct. 13: Silent Parade

A Silent Parade will be held Oct. 13 at 7:15 p.m. in honor of individuals who died while fighting fires. Fire trucks will leave Hinsdale and proceed through Lisle with their sirens off, but with their lights flashing. Downers Grove residents can gather on Maple to watch the parade or to hold flashlights to show their solidarity.

The parade starts with a ceremony at Hinsdale Fire Department and will end at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1101 Kimberly Way, Lisle.
