Former Student Athletes To Be Added To Hall Of Fame At DG North

Al Bekkedal, class of '75, and Christine Rehor-Federico, class of '84, will be inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame Jan. 13.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Two former student athletes at Downers Grove North will be inducted to the school's athletic hall of fame in January. A ceremony will be held on Jan. 13 to celebrate the accomplishments of Al Bekkedal, class of '75, and Christine Rehor-Federico, class of '84,

Bekkedal competed in gymnastic during his time at Downers Grove North, placing fourth in the NCAA Division II Competition for Still Rings in 1979. He went on to coach Downers Grove North's gymnasts for more than three decades, leading several teams and students to place in sectional, division, and state meets.

Rehor-Federico lent her volleyball skills to help Downers Grove North earn fourth place in the IHSA State Volleyball Tournament in 1984. When Rehor-Federico began studying at Illinois State University, she was a four-year varsity starter and set a school record of 1,773 career digs, according to a release from Downers Grove North.

Rehor-Federico was inducted to the Illinois State University Hall of Fame in 1996.

The induction ceremony for Bekkedal and Rehor-Federico will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13 in the school's Purple Gym at 4:15 p.m., just prior to the boys varsity basketball game against Libertyville.
