Grove Shopping Center Up For Sale

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — If you drive past the Grove Shopping Center, you can't help but feel a little worried about its fate. Michaels and Ultra Foods were recently added to the strip mall's list of casualties. Now, the Grove Shopping Center is for sale in the hopes that someone can revive it, according to Crain's.

The property, located at 1202 75th Street in Downers Grove, covers more than 200,000 square feet amid a larger complex of retail stores and restaurants. The shopping center was first built in 1986 when retail was booming, but with more and more people shopping online in recent years, stores at the Grove have steadily begun closing.

Crain's notes that a UFC Gym signed a lease for a spot in the Grove Shopping Center, which may lead to more activity at other stores in the center. In the meantime, residents will keep their fingers crossed that a buyer will step forward and revitalize what was once a busy shopping stop in Downers Grove.
