Herrick, O'Neill Middle Schools To Be Dedicated In Early May
The dedication and ribbon-cutting events will be held May 6 and May 7, marking the schools' transition to a sixth to eighth grade format.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — After more than two years of construction in a multi-million dollar upgrade, the new additions to Herrick and O'Neill Middle Schools will be officially dedicated with ribbon-cutting ceremonies on May 6 and May 7.
During the ceremony, students and community members can tour the schools, which will shift to include sixth- through eighth-grade students during the 2026-27 school year. The schools had formerly operated under a 7th through 8th grade model.
Middle school construction project began during winter break 2023 and the official groundbreaking took place in April 2024. The project was part of a $179 million bond referendum presented by Downers Grove Grade School District 58 and passed by voters in Nov. 2022.

The renovations included creating additional learning spaces, improving ADA compliance, upgrading HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems and renovating bathrooms.
At Herrick Middle School, a new main entrance was added, and renovations were made to the school's kitchen. At O'Neill, the library and gym have been remodeled, science labs have been updated and the fitness center has been expanded.

The ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony at O'Neill Middle School is scheduled for May 6 at 5:30 p.m. The Herrick Middle School ribbon-cutting will be held on May 7 at 5:30 p.m.
