How Local Hospitals Are Prepping For COVID-19 In DuPage County
The most recent change includes a "no visitor" policy, which has some exceptions.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — As more and more people are practicing "social distancing" in an effort to stem the spread of new coronavirus, Advocate Aurora Health hospitals have implemented a "no visitor" policy. The change, which affects the hospital's locations in is one of the many ways Advocate is prepping for a potential coronavirus outbreak.
The policy, which has a few exceptions, was put into effect Sunday. Visitors who meet the exception criteria must still pass a health screening at a hospital checkpoint before visiting their loved ones. Here is a list of potential exceptions the hospital is making:
- Pediatric caregivers
- Caregivers necessary for the emotional well-being of the patient
- Partner and midwife/doula of a laboring mother
- End of life situations (# of visitors determined on a case-by-case basis)
- Emergency Department companion
- Outpatient area companion
- In person discharge instructions
- Professionals assigned to assist with procedures

Since coronavirus cases started popping up across the globe, Advocate has taken steps to prepare for a potential outbreak in DuPage County. Some of the ways they have prepped include conducting simulation exercises for treating COVID-19 patients.
The simulation exercises included practicing how to accommodate a potential influx of additional patients.

Virtual Offerings
Advocate Aurora Health hospitals are offering expanded virtual offerings and 24/7 availability.
Additional Cleaning
As an "added layer of precaution," Advocate has implemented additional cleaning and sanitizing throughout its hospitals.
Boxed Lunches
As a precaution, boxed lunches and pre-packaged food only will be served at Advocate cafeterias and retail areas. Self-service stations have been temporarily put out of service.
Business Travel Canceled
Additionally, Advocate Aurora Health has cancelled business travel outside of Illinois and Wisconsin through May 31.
Advocate Aurora Health has 28 hospitals throughout Illinois and Wisconsin.
