Illinois Tollway Collects Toys For Tots Donations

The tollway will accept toy donations through Dec. 13.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL --- The Illinois Tollway is used to doing its part helping commuters get across the state; this season it's doing its part helping toys get from the North Pole and into the hands of children in need. As part of the Toys for Tots program, the Illinois Tollway is accepting unwrapped new toys through Dec. 13, so kids can get them in time for the holidays.

Members of the public can drop off toys at the Illinois Tollway Headquarters, 2700 Ogden Avenue, in Downers Grove, anytime between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. during weekdays. Tollway officials noted in a press release that that they cannot accept stuffed animals or toy weapons and that they are in need of more toys that are designed for kids ages 10 to 12.

Last year, tollway employees donated more than 1,200 items to benefit Toys for Tots, but this year they hope to exceed that number by accepting these public donations. In a statement, Illinois Tollway Executive Director Liz Gorman said, "Participating in this toy collection drive is an annual tradition at the Tollway, but we want to step up our efforts this year to help ensure more children receive gifts at Christmas."
