Jewelry Stolen In Ruse Burglary In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL -- What started as a seemingly innocuous exchange in which a man told a Downers Grove homeowner that a power line was down ended with jewelry missing from the resident's home. The incident took place Tuesday afternoon in the 3000 block of Venard Road.

The victim told police that a man came to her home around 3 p.m. and alerted her that a "power pole" had been knocked down and he needed to check her electrical panel. The woman invited the man into her home and took him to her basement, so he could find the panel.

She told police that he was talking on his cellphone the entire team they were in the basement, which was approximately 30 minutes. He then left in what appeared to be a hurry, police say.

After he left, she noticed that two necklaces that had been sitting on her bedroom dresser were missing.
