Local young couple fight cancer

If you have forgotten what's important, read their story.

I write this in support of my son Sean and his wife Casie. Sean is her around the clock caretaker during this traumatic time in their lives. Casie developed Burkett’s Lymphoma after having a kidney transplant, the anti rejection medication caused the cancer.

Sean graduated high school from Downers Grove North and they have been together since then and now have been married for 4 years

Casie has gone into remission a couple of times briefly, but now is considered to be at stage 4 and now has multiple cancer sites throughout her body including her brain and in her spinal fluid.

Despite the radiation and chemotherapy treatments, the cancer keeps coming back and more aggressively.

They have exhausted many treatment options including a stem cell transplant and radiation. During the last body scan in just 21 days the cancer returned to both breasts, in her throat and two tumors in her brain. Cancer is also present in her spinal fluid. They are currently reaching out to doctors around the country and looking for clinical trials she can qualify for. Most all places have refused to accept her as a patient because of the tumors in her brain.

One of the last treatment options the doctors at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago have planned for her is to inject chemotherapy through a port that was surgically implanted three inches directly into her brain.

The hopes and dreams of this young couple who just had their 4 year Anniversary last week have been devastated. Instead of going out for nice dinner to celebrate their love, they were focused on just being able to keep her alive.

Sean has been there every moment 24 hours a day to make her as comfortable as she can be. He does all this all after a major back surgery of his own without complaining about his own pain. He never stops caring for her and I am very proud of the giving man he has become. At 33 years old, he has had more heart ache than most people experience in a lifetime.

Both sides of the family are supporting them 100% and now after a few years, have become stretched very thin financially.

Please, in honor of a family member or a friend who died of cancer, or is still fighting cancer if you can help them with any donation it would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe cancer has affected your family and you were not able to help them then and are in a better position to help someone else now, you would bring some peace of mind to them. Casie is only 30 years old.

The most difficult moments in life makes you pause and realize what really matters the most.

My heart is breaking for Sean and Casie and I want to do anything I can to give them one less thing to worry about and maybe bring back a smile or two.

Any help any amount will be very much appreciated and will go directly to the essentials for them.

If you cannot donate, a prayer for them will go a long way
