Looting, Arson Reported At Stores In Downers Grove: Police

Police say Maple Foods was the victim of a forced entry and arson Tuesday and Millard Jewelers was looted Monday.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Stores in Downers Grove were the targets of looting and arson amid unrest Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Maple Foods, located at 2265 Maple, was the victim of arson and looting, Tuesday according to an update from the Village of Downers Grove.

Police say cash and bottles of liquor were stolen.

Millard Jewelers, located at 1640 75th St., was targeted by looters Monday, officials said. Additionally, two arrests were made Monday for forced entry at American Tobacco and Vape, located at 4242 Main St.

The Best Buy at 1432 Butterfield Rd. was looted by about 50 people Sunday.

Village officials said Downers Grove facilities were open Wednesday. Downtown streets and stores were also open and preparing for outdoor dining.

A peaceful protest was held in Downers Grove Tuesday and attended by about 50 people. "The march concluded with a conversation between demonstrators and Downers Grove Police officers," officials said.
