Man Convicted In Carjacking Of Downers Grove Women

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A third man has been convicted in connection with a 2019 carjacking in Downers Grove in 2019. Martavious Robinson, 20, of Chicago, was found guilty of aggravated vehicular hijacking following a two-day jury trial.

Police were called to a house on Prairie Avenue on Nov. 30, 2019, by two women who said they had been sitting in a car when they were approached by an armed man in a mask. The man, whom authorities identified as Robinson, told the women to get out of the vehicle, got in and drove off, a news release said.

In December of 2019, Robinson and two men were arrested in connection with an armed carjacking in Warrenville.

“In late 2019, three men, Martavious Robinson, Emanuel Embry and Daysean Washington-Davis embarked on a short-lived crime spree, carjacking multiple victims in Downers Grove and the surrounding area,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Berlin added, “Two of the men, Embry and Washington-Davis, each pled guilty to one count of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking with a firearm, a Class X Felony, and were sentenced to 40 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The final guilty verdict in this case sends the message that in DuPage County we will not tolerate this type of violent gun crime that terrorizes entire communities leaving residents to fear for their personal safety."

Robinson faces a sentence of up to 45 years and is expected to appear in court for pre-sentencing on Aug. 28.
