2nd Man Sentenced In Carjacking Of Pregnant Downers Grove Woman
Emanuel Embry, 23, of Chicago, is one of three men charged in connection with carjackings in Downers Grove and Warrenville in 2019.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A man who was involved in the carjacking of a pregnant woman in Downers Grove in 2019 has been sentenced to 40 years in prison. Emanuel Embry, 23, of Chicago, had formerly pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular carjacking with a firearm in connection with the incident.
Police were called to Hawkins Street just before 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2019, after a pregnant woman was approached by two men as she sat in her car. Prosecutors say Embry and his co-defendant, Martavious Robinson, 20, of Chicago, while wearing masks, demanded the woman get out of her car and then fled with Daysean Washington-Davis, 22, driving.
The victim's friend, who had seen the carjacking take place, got into his car and followed Embry and Robinson in the stolen car. When the pregnant woman's car was stopped in traffic, her friend pulled over, got out of his own car and approached Washington-Davis, Embry and Robinson in the stolen car, a news release said.

Robinson is set to stand trial on June 27 for aggravated vehicular hijacking and armed robbery with a firearm.
Embry, Robinson and Washington-Davis are also being charged in connection with a carjacking in Warrenville that took place just before the aforementioned carjacking in Downers Grove.
"In late 2019, within two-weeks’ time, Mr. Embry, Mr. Washington-Davis, and allegedly Mr. Robinson terrorized DuPage County residents carjacking multiple victims at gunpoint during their short-lived crime spree,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement after Embry was sentenced.
Berlin added, “Violent gun crimes such as these will not be tolerated in DuPage County as they claim not just the immediate victims but have a chilling effect on the entire community as well leaving residents on edge, concerned for their personal safety. This afternoon, Judge Reidy sentenced Mr. Embry to 40 years behind bars for his role in this violent crime. Combined with Mr. Washington-Davis’s 40-year sentence, the message is clear, if you commit a violent crime in DuPage County, you will be held accountable."
