Man Took Steaks from Downers Grove Grocery Store: Police

He left the store with two steaks in his coat pockets, police report.

Downers Grove police were called Nov. 23 to a grocery store on Ogden Avenue for reports of a man who left without paying for steaks.

Bartolome D. Basat, 80 of the 800 block of Franklin Street in Westmont, was confronted outside the market after he was seen putting two items into his coat pockets, paying for other items and leaving the store, according to Downers Grove police.

Basat handed over the items and was taken to the store’s security office. The items were two CAB Boneless New York Strip steaks, valued at $28.71.

Basat was arrested for retail theft and taken to the Downers Grove Police Department for booking and processing. He was served with a one count village ordinance complaint for retail theft, and he was given a trespass notice from the grocery, police reported.
