Man Tried To Lure Child Into Car In Downers Grove: Cops

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police in Downers Grove are urging parents and children to stay vigilant following a "suspicious incident" in which a man approached a child in the 4600 block of Stonewall Avenue Friday. A man in a silver sedan pulled up to a girl who was riding her scooter and asked if she wanted to get into his vehicle, according to police.

Police say the incident took place around 7 p.m. and that the girl continued to ride her scooter south on Stonewall afterwards. The silver sedan was last seen heading southbound on Stonewall towards Prairie Avenue.

The sedan's driver was described as a white man with olive skin, roughly 40 years old, clean shaven, with a heavy build and short, dark hair.

Parents are encouraged to go over safety practices with their children. Police say kids who are approached by a stranger should run to their homes, a familiar home or an open school.
