Man Who Attacked Mom With Hatchet On Mother's Day Pleads Guilty

The Downers Grove man struck his mother with a hatchet multiple times.

DOWNERST GROVE, IL — A Downers Grove man has pleaded guilty to brutally attacking his own mother with a hatchet on Mother's Day in 2017. Jonathan Flick, 58, of the 4200 block of Earlston Rd. pleaded Tuesday guilty to a felony charge of aggravated battery.

According to police, the victim's daughter visited her at her home on May 19, 2017 and saw multiple lacerations on her neck and face. The daughter then alerted local police.

After an investigation, police pinpointed Flick as the suspect and determined that Flick had gone to the home he shared with his mother on Mother's Day, May 13, 2017. While there, he "at some point in time he repeatedly hit his mother about the head and face with a hatchet," authorities say.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said of the incident, "“This case is a very disturbing example of how domestic violence is not confined to spousal abuse. The very idea that an individual would attack another with a hatchet, let alone their own mother, is outrageous."

Flick faces up to 14 years in prison. He's set to appear in court again on August 21.
