Man Who Posed As Lawyer, Had More Than 2,800 "Sexually Explicit" Images Of Kids Sentenced To 9 Years: Feds

Jose Gregoria Sosa Cardona pleaded guilty to federal charges related to immigration fraud, tax fraud and child pornography in November.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Downers Grove man who posed as an attorney, falsified information documents and had more than 2,800 "sexually explicit" photos of children on his electronics devices has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison.

Jose Gregoria Sosa Cardona pleaded guilty in November to charges of possession of child pornography, conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government and tax fraud, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Northern District of Illinois.

Authorities say Sosa Cardona provided false information to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). He was also accused of falsifying documents, including law enforcement reports and tax returns.

Per the U.S. Attorney's Office, Sosa Cardona did not pay $316,000 in taxes he withheld from employees between 2020 and 2023.

When agents conducted a search of Sosa Cardona's electronics devices in 2024, they reported finding 2,877 videos and photos of minors "engaged in sexually explicit content," the news release said.

The nine-year sentence was handed down in federal court on May 7.
