Men Spotted Cutting Catalytic Converter From Car In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A resident told police they saw two masked men cutting a catalytic converter from a car in an apartment complex parking lot in Downers Grove, according to a recent crime blotter.

The resident told police he heard a sawing sound just after 3 a.m. on July 18. When he went outside to see what the sound was, he noticed two men in masks that were hoisting a Toyota Prius up with a jack.

Police say the man yelled at the two suspects, who tried to remove the jack, but it got caught and caused damage to the Prius. The men then fled in a black SUV, heading north on Walnut.

The victim told police a catalytic converter had been stolen from his Prius once or twice before. Police say a catalytic converter was stolen from a van in the same parking lot.
