Midwestern University Students Raise Funds for Cancer Research

Midwestern University students, faculty members, and community residents raised more than $42,000 to battle childhood cancer as part of an annual “St. Baldrick’s Shave for a Change” fundraiser held at Ballydoyle Irish Pub in downtown Downers Grove in March. Students from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) organized the event where 35 people had their heads shaved in solidarity with children who are experiencing the effects of cancer treatments.

“I believe these large fundraising events are important to help organizations like St. Baldrick’s. Since the pandemic started, donations have decreased dramatically, so now more than ever it is important that we assist by fundraising,” said Nick Schieldt (CCOM 2024), one of the student organizers for the event. “The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a wonderful organization that raises money for pediatric cancer research. We have been supporting them for many years and will continue to do so for many more.”

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives.
