Moment of Clarity Mental Health Center

New holiday schedule for kids.

The Holidays can be extremely stressful, especially for parents who have children who are struggling with mental health conditions or behavioral concerns. The increase in social activity, travel, and interruption of set bedtimes can all trigger a child with mental health disorders, but recognizing these triggers can reduce the child from feeling emotionally dysregulated.

Jeff Yoo, LMFT at Moment of Clarity Mental Health Center says creating a plan for your child is crucial. Yoo suggests implementing a new holiday schedule prior to the holidays can also help ease the overwhelming feeling the child might have. The following tips can also reduce distress:

1. Remind family members to respect boundaries. For example: Asking if it's okay to hug the child)
2. Provide a quiet space for the child if they are not comfortable in a party setting
3. Know when it is time to say goodbye
