National Merit Scholars Honored At Downers North, South

Nearly two dozen students were honored as part of the prestigious program.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Nearly two dozen students from Downers Grove North and South High Schools have been honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Each year, the program gives recognition to high school seniors who have performed well academically and on the preliminary SAT test (PSAT).

According to a media release, both Downers North and South each had two students who were named National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists. At Downers South, Ethan Pawl and Carson Aldrich received semi-finalist recognition for scoring in the top 1 percent on their PSAT exams. Kishore Kumar, Alena Spreitzer, and Marion Deal were honored from Downers Grove North.

Several students from both schools were honored as Commended Students for scoring in the top 5 percent of PSAT test takers. These students include Dominic Balsamo, Thomas Blackmore, Jeremy Blumka, Anna Bogdanski, Ryan Borzello, Grace Curry, Samantha Guagliardo, Annika Heiling, Katherine A Lyda, Margaret L. Lyons, Eleanor M. Maher, Joseph Martens, Caitlin E. McCann, Parker McGuire, Matthew Perry, and Emma Sayre, and Liam M. Schultz.

Christopher Cossyleon, a student at Downers Grove South, received recognition as a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar for scoring within the top 2.5 percent of Latino and Hispanic participants.
