New Downers Grove North Principal To Start July 1

Courtney DeMent will replace Janice Schwarze, who is retiring at the end of the 2020-21 school year.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The District 99 Board of Education has approved a new principal for Downers Grove North High School. Courtney DeMent is set to start as principal on July 1.

DeMent started her career at Addison Trail High School after she earned her bachelor's degree at Bradley University. She later earned a master's degree in educational organization and leadership from University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. DeMent is currently completing her doctorate degree at Aurora University.

DeMent has worked in DuPage High School District 88 since 2002. When she starts at Downers Grove North, it will be to replace Principal Janice Schwarze, who will retire at the end of the 2020-21 school year.

“From teaching and coaching students to leading educators, Courtney has the perfect blend of experiences that are required to serve as the leader of North High,” District 99 Superintendent Dr. Hank Thiele said in a news release. “I want to thank all of the people who served on the team to interview and consider candidates, which ultimately led us to choosing Courtney for this important role.”
