The new Downers Grove Town Center will include a handful of new dining options, including CoreLife Eatery and City Barbecue.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Construction companies recently broke ground on a new plaza in Downers Grove that will be home to CoreLife Eatery, Mod Pizza, and other restaurants. The plaza, which will be called Downers Grove Town Center, is expected to wrap up construction in spring.

The plaza will consist of more than 93,000 square feet on the northwest corner of Main and Ogden. Vequity real estate, which is heading up the project, said in a news release that Downers Grove Town Center will be a "high profile shopping center."

At Tuesday's village meeting Michael Cassa, president and CEO of the Downers Grove Economic Development Corporation, revealed some of the tenants that will occupy the plaza once construction is completed.

Two of the best-known restaurants coming to Downers Grove Town Center in spring include Panda Express and Mod Pizza, a laidback eatery that serves artisanal pies made to order. In addition to traditional toppings, Mod Pizza offers such inventive options as dairy-free cheese, roasted cauliflower, and arugula. There's also a gluten-free crust option for diners with dietary restrictions.

CoreLife Eatery is another big name coming to the new plaza. The eco-conscious eatery currently has locations from New York to Utah. Downers Grove will be its second location in Illinois; there's currently a CoreLife Eatery in Peoria. Their menu focuses on bowls filled with fresh grains and greens that are sustainably sourced and tossed with your choice of protein. CoreLife even has a tofu option for vegans.
