Purse Nabbed, Designer Glasses Stolen In Downers Grove: Police

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Designer glasses were stolen from Lens Crafters, a purse was swiped from a cart at Home Depot and other crimes were reported on the Downers Grove police blotter for mid-May, 2022.

Glasses Stolen from Lens Crafters

Three pairs of designer glasses were stolen from the Lens Crafters at 1402 Butterfield Rd. Police say three men came into the store around 12:25 p.m. on May 12. The clerk told police one of the men began talking to her in Spanish, possibly to distract her. A short time later, the other two men left the store and the third man joined them as they headed east.

Police say at least two pairs of Burberry, one pair of Dolce and Gabbana and one pair of Prada glasses were reported stolen. The total loss was valued at $1,000.

Purse Stolen from Cart at Home Depot

A woman told police her purse was stolen while it was in her cart in the parking lot of Home Depot, 2000 Butterfield Rd., on May 13.

Police say the woman put the items she purchased into her car and then put the cart in the store's cart return around 4 p.m. She said she believes her purse was stolen while she was loading up the car or after she returned the cart.

The following items were in the purse, according to police: a driver's license, credit cards, a Social Security card and $50 cash.

Catalytic Converter Stolen from Car in 1500 Block of Centre Circle

A catalytic converter was cut from a 1992 GMC 2500 van while it was in a lot in the 1500 block of Centre Circle. The part, valued at $1,500, was stolen sometime between May 5 and May 13, the police blotter indicated.
