Roundhead's Pizza May Be Relocating To Accommodate New Walgreens In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Fans of Roundhead's Pizza in Downers Grove will likely soon have to travel to a new location to get a pie. On August 1, the Downers Grove Village Council responded positively to a proposal to build a Walgreens store in Meadowbrook Shopping Center at 2001 63rd Street. The construction would require extensive restructuring of the plaza that would include displacing Roundhead's and forcing the restaurant to find a new location.

The old Roundhead's Pizza Pub location would be demolished to make way for the new Walgreen's store, which will span nearly 15,000 square feet of space and add additional parking for customers. The hope is that the addition of a Walgreens store will spark new tenants and increased business in the strip mall, which is home to Familia Fresh Market, Indian Bazaar and other shops. If the proposal is approved, the construction plans include a revamp of the mall's facade and improvements to the parking lot, among other changes.

Roundhead's, which has been embroiled in an ongoing battle about the issue with the shopping center for months now, is set to reopen at 500 75th Street in Downers Grove in September, according to a post on their Facebook page. In the post, Roundhead's expressed it heartfelt gratitude to its loyal customers, saying, "We would like to start by saying how humbled and appreciative we are for all the support you have shown us over the years! Words cannot describe how thankful and proud we are." The post also teased that the new location will offer something Roundhead's fans in Downers Grove have been wanting for awhile: delivery.

The council will vote on the matter Tuesday, August 8.
