Ruse Burglary Attempt Under Investigation In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove police are investigating a ruse burglary attempt that was made at a home in the 4800 block of Stonewall Avenue Saturday afternoon.

The victim told police that someone came to their door around 3 p.m. and said they needed to check on their water. The suspect reportedly told the victim their water could be dangerous, but did not elaborate.

Police say the man then led the woman to the basement and upstairs bathroom, where he turned the water on and told her it would take about 10 minutes for estimates.

He later said he had to get his tools and left, but did not come back.
