Ruse Burglary Targets Elderly Resident In Downers Grove
Police say the suspect came to the door saying they were from a water company.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police in Downers Grove are investigating a ruse burglary that targeted an elderly resident on April 3. According to a police report, the suspect came to the door claiming to be from a water company and stole jewelry while inside the 82-year-old's home.
Police say the man came to the victim's door in the 300 block of 55th Street and told her that sewer water was getting into her drinking water. The victim told police the man was driving a white box truck.
The victim told police the suspect was dressed in "work clothes," so she let him into her home to check the water. After the man left, she reported that $2,000 in jewelry was missing from the home.
