Ruse Burglary Under Investigation In Downers Grove
A man came to the resident's door claiming to be with the village's water department.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove police are investigating a ruse burglary that took place in mid-March. According to a police report, a man wearing a badge and utility belt came to the resident's door in the 4700 block of Cross Street claiming to be from the village's water department and saying he needed to check her water.
After getting into the home, the man asked the resident to come with him to the basement. The resident told police that after that she saw three people running out of her spare bedroom and threatened to call police, which prompted all four suspects to flee the scene.
Police say the suspects stole envelopes that contained $2,000 in cash.
