Craigslist Apartment Scam Cost Oak Park Resident Thousands
An Oak Park resident lost thousands of dollars in a Craigslist apartment rental scam.

OAK PARK, IL — A suspect used Craigslist to post a fake apartment rental ad that scammed an Oak Park resident out of more than $4,500. Police say the incident took place in the 1100 block of Rossell Ave. on Nov. 3.
The victim told police that they responded to an ad for an apartment on Craigslist and were told they needed to transfer cash to a bank account to secure the apartment. The resident then made a deposit of $4,625 to an account the suspect indicated.
After making the deposit, the victim went to the apartment in question and spoke with management. Police say the victim realized they were scammed after their conversation with the management company.
