Strolling Carolers, Horse-Drawn Rides Coming To Downtown Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Residents can ring in the holiday season Thanksgiving weekend with strolling carolers, horse-drawn carriage rides and other festivities to compliment the tree lighting ceremony in downtown Downers Grove.

The 2022 tree lighting is slated for Nov. 25 at 4:30 p.m. at the Main Street Metra Station.

Strolling Carolers

Before the tree is officially lit to herald the start of the holidays, the streets of downtown will be filled with the sounds of traditional holiday songs sung by Olde Town Carolers from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides

On Nov. 27, visitors can take a ride in a festively decorated horse-drawn wagon to see the decorated shops and twinkling lights illuminated downtown. To take a free wagon ride, head to 1028 Curtiss St. between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Gingerbread House Contest

From Nov. 26 through Dec. 11, select merchants will display gingerbread houses decorated by businesses and residents. Click the link to vote for your favorite gingerbread house.

Santa Visits

Santa Claus will be stopping in downtown Downers from Nov. 26 through Dec. 18 to visit with children. You can find him at the intersection of Main and Curtiss on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Candy Cane Cash and "Small Business Weekend" Promotions

From Nov. 25 through Nov. 27, businesses in downtown Downers Grove will be offering promotions and specials to celebrate Small Business Weekend. As an extra incentive, the Candy Cane Cash reward program will be in effect for purchases made from Nov. 25 through Dec. 31.
