DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The winter holidays are upon us, which means it's time to mark those calendars for the 2022 Downers Grove tree lighting and other festive events planned throughout the village.

2022 Holiday Tree Lighting Nov. 25

Downers Grove's 2022 holiday tree lighting ceremony is set for Nov. 25 at 4:30 p.m. Residents will gather at the Main Street Metra Station, 5001 Main St., to watch the tree get illuminated to officially herald the start of the season.

Residents have until Nov. 18 to donate their homemade ornaments to adorn the tree.

Holiday Glow Decorating Contest

Residents will vie for the top spot in the Downers Grove Park District's 2022 Holiday Glow Decorating Contest. Homeowners have until Dec. 11 to register for the decorating contest and judging will take place from Dec. 14 through Dec. 16.

Two categories are available, giving participants the option of decorating in a traditional style or in a "Griswold" style, which draws inspiration from the over-the-top Christmas decor of Clark Griswold's house in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation."

The cost to register is $10. The winning homes will be announced on Dec. 19.

Candy Cane Lane Dec. 3

Head to Lincoln Center on Dec. 3 at 9 a.m. for family-friendly festivities that feature themed arts and crafts, treats and stories read by Mrs. Claus. Santa Claus and other holiday characters will be on hand to pose for photos.

The event is geared toward children ages three to nine years old and the fee to attend is $25 for residents and $35 for nonresidents. Click the link to register for Candy Cane Lane.

Merry and Bright: A Victorian Christmas Dec. 10

Blodgett House will host Merry and Bright: A Victorian Christmas on Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. The historic home will be decked out in lights and festive items and the surrounding park will feature decorated trees and a campfire. Carolers will perform music while clad in Victorian era costumes.
