Swarm Football Team to Play in Pop Warner Championship

Darien Swarm to play Shorewood Sunday at Hinsdale South.

Darien Swarm’s Midget division football team, which includes kids from Darien, Woodridge and Downers Grove, is set to play Shorewood in the Chicago area Pop Warner championship game at on Sunday Nov. 6th at 3:00pm.

The Midget division team had a rough start this season, losing their first two games and giving up a total of 72 points. But the coaches and players never became discouraged, instead focusing on re-tooling the defense and making adjustments to the offensive scheme.

The results have been spectacular, going 6-1 into the championship game. Coach John Maher commented on the teams improvement – “It was great to see these kids really come together and gel as a team this year…we couldn’t have asked for a better group of kids and parents.”

“These kids have earned their nickname – ‘The comeback kids’” added one of the assistant coaches.

The picture shown above is after Swarm’s second meeting with Shorewood, winning 14-12 in what the boys have dubbed “The mud bowl”. The championship game against Shorewood will be the third meeting between the two teams and promises to be a thrilling and hard hitting match-up.
