Swimply

Offers some wonderful Chicago area pools to rent.

Swimply is a marketplace that connects owners of underutilized swimming pools and spaces with people seeking to gather, swim and escape locally. The company is trailblazing the experiential-based sharing category and creating an entirely new income stream for homeowners with pools that are otherwise used just 15 percent of the time. For swimmers, Swimply is disrupting the multi-billion dollar aquatic space and providing an option for the 96 percent of Americans that do not have access to a pool. The company was founded in 2019 and is headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Swimply is backed by Mayfield, GGV, Norwest Ventures and other notable angels.

Co-Founder Bunim Laskin had the idea that would become Swimply at the age of 20 when he, as the oldest of 12 siblings, was feeling pent up one summer at his parents’ New Jersey home and didn’t have the financial means to take a vacation. He noticed his neighbor’s pool was largely unused, so he asked the neighbor if he could rent the pool for a few hours for his family to use. Soon, other neighbors did the same, and the pool-owners eventually turned a profit, covering their monthly pool maintenance expenses.

Co-Founder Asher Weinberger experienced a similar problem when he became a new home owner, all of his family and friends kept asking to use the pool, so he began to think about how someone could make a side hustle out of that need.
